Dr. Alexandra McDermott Selected as Top Global Leader of the Year by IAOTP
Dr. Alexandra McDermott, JD, MFA, EdD, Founder and President of McDermott Leadership Founder of Her Dragon, #1 Bestselling Author, Motivational Speaker, American Research Professor, Serial Entrepreneur, and Business Consultant and Leadership Coach, was recently selected as Top Global Leader of the Year for 2023 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for her outstanding leadership, dedication, and commitment to the industry.
While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, other affiliations, and contributions to their communities. All honorees are invited to attend the IAOTP’s annual awards gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements.
Dr. McDermott is a dynamic, results-driven leader who has demonstrated success and professionalism throughout her entire career. She is the founder and president at McDermott Leadership, which encompasses a network of organizations dedicated to serving Global Leaders and fostering the growth of both Leaders and organizations, along with their respective teams. She manages multiple organizations within this collective, including Her Dragon, a company that helps women transition from despair to a positive and productive mindset, ElevateDNA, which provides coaching to global leaders, and American Top-Notch Management Worldwide Leadership.
Before embarking on her professional career path, Dr. McDermott earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, a Juris Doctor from Chapman University School of Law, a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from the University of California, Riverside, and a Doctorate of Global Executive Education degree from the University of Southern California.
Her impressive repertoire of past roles includes a successful career in law, working as special counsel for Sedgwick from 2001 to 2008. She opened The McDermott Law Firm and later became a preferred shareholder and certified crowdfunder with European Leadership, American Leadership, and Worldwide Incubators Leadership. She entered the field of education in 2010, teaching and mentoring at various institutions. She was assistant academic dean and program chair at Westwood College and later became a franchise owner and development director of Tutor Doctor. From 2016 to 2022, she worked as a Faculty Member and moved up to the role of Senior Lecturer at the University of Southern California and currently serves as a faculty member at American Public University System.
Currently Dr. McDermott is launching her own publishing company with a colleague, called Pen Crown Publishing. Dr. McDermott sees the immense power of storytelling and believes that the more stories she can get out there the more she can effectuate change and she can be the conduit to help people do it.
Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. McDermott has received many awards and accolades and has been recognized worldwide for her accomplishments. This year she will be considered for the Empowered Woman Award and to be featured in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine. She will be honored for her selection as Top Global Leader of the Year 2023 at IAOTP’s annual awards gala at the iconic NYC Plaza Hotel this December. She also was just recently named as one of the Global Icons for 2023 with Passion Vista Magazine. She has received several other awards, such as the Tommy Trojan Award from the University of Southern California, the Integrity Award from American Public University System, and recognition in Marquis Who’s Who.
Dr. McDermott is also a published author who has gained recognition for her recent publication in a collaborative book called “Fearless Female Leaders.” Her chapter, titled “Reframing Despair: Going from Stuck to Unstoppable,” has been highly acclaimed, earning her the status of a #1 Bestselling Author. In addition to her poetry, she has also published works of both fiction and nonfiction.
Looking back, Dr. McDermott attributes her success to her perseverance, work ethic, and the challenges she experienced in her life. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her twin daughters, sister and her dogs. For the future, she wants to help individuals from being stuck to unstoppable and live the life of their dreams.
