“The Game of the Brave” – Xinjiang Motorcycle Racer Riding towards Dream
During the Han and Tang Dynasties, the road to the Western Regions starting from Dunhuang was mainly divided to southern, middle and northern routes. During the Eastern Han Dynasty, an almost straight-line shortcut was created between Dunhuang and Turpan — Dahaidao. Despite a dangerous trip, crossing Dahaidao can save half the journey. It’s just in such a mysterious and magnificent place that a legendary motorcyclist was born. Being both attractive and talented, he improved China’s best results in the Dakar Rally for three consecutive years. In his birthplace Wupu Town, Yizhou District, Hami City, he’s known to everybody. Zaker started competing in motorcycle rallies at the age of 19 and finished in second place in China’s most challenging race,the “Around Taklamakan” Rally, at the age of 22. Over the years, he has won numerous medals in motorcycle rallies. However, Zaker never received professional training at the beginning. He attributed his achievements to the mysterious and dangerous Dahaidao. With complicated terrain and environment, it offers a natural training ground.Having practiced numerous times on Dahaidao, Zaker can be considered the one who knows Dahaidao best. It’s said that if a drone is lost on Dahaidao, he can even find it according to the last image captured by the drone.
35-year-old Zaker was born and raised in Wupu town, Xinjiang. He holds the best results among Asian motorcyclists in the Dakar Rally, one of the world’s top motorsports that’s known as the Game of the Brave. In fact,the ones who provided the most support to Zaker are his parents. In 2006, Zaker’s father spent almost two years of income to buy him a second-hand motorcycle for his first competition. Although he retired from the event due to motorcycle breakdowns during the first round, he’s destined to go further because of his passion and talent.
The reason he loves this sport is that he hopes more people to see this place,to know more about his beautiful hometown Hami,and visit here. It seems a common, simple wish,but starting from here, it has grown bigger and reached out to the world.The Yardang landform of Dahaidao is breathtaking. Here, every grain of sand has its own story, and every journey is a legend. In recent years, this ancient path that was once abandoned has become a holy ground for explorers at home and abroad.
